Optimizing the gas locker closure in a camper: Space-saving & scratch-free

Anyone who uses their camper intensively and makes optimal use of the rear garage knows the problem: the original bail closure of the gas locker often protrudes far. When loading and unloading camping chairs or the table, and when pulling out the rear drawer, our equipment regularly got caught on the closure. This not only causes frustration but also leaves unsightly scratches on the equipment over time. Our solution: replacing the bulky bail with flat, precisely closing slide bolts.

⚠️ Important: The gas locker must be absolutely sealed!

Safety first, always! The gas locker door must remain completely sealed after the modification. When installing the new bolts, make sure that sufficient contact pressure is continuously applied to the rubber seal, so that under no circumstances can gas or gas odor enter the camper's interior.

Step-by-step guide to the conversion

1. Install new slide bolts

First, position and screw the compact slide bolts onto the gas locker door. Choose the position so that the door is pulled evenly against the body and the rubber seal is well compressed all around.

2. Adjust aluminum angle profile & mark drill holes

The aluminum angle profile serves as a counterpart on the frame into which the bolt pins engage. A simple trick helps to accurately determine the drill holes: coat the tips of the bolt pins with a little paint or a felt-tip pen, close the door, and press the pins against the angle profile. This will give you millimeter-accurate markings for your drill holes in no time. Then drill appropriate holes and securely mount the profile.

3. Function test & removal of the old bails

Now thoroughly test whether the door can be easily locked and sits tightly. Once the new slide bolts hold perfectly and the locker is tightly closed, you can remove the old, protruding bail closure parts without a trace. The result is an absolutely flat, elegant front!
