LED Reversing Light for Camper Van
I decided to install additional LED reversing lights on my GiottiVan (Citroen Jumper), which is 6.0 m long. Here is my summary of the benefits and the installation:
Product Summary and Benefits
I installed the Osram Reversing FX120S-WD LED auxiliary reversing lights. These additional lights offer significant advantages, especially when driving at night and reversing.
Advantages:
- The LED reversing lights significantly improve visibility by illuminating the area behind my vehicle more effectively. This is particularly useful in dark or poorly lit areas.
- Safer Maneuvering: Improved lighting allows me to maneuver more safely and precisely, reducing the risk of collisions with obstacles or other vehicles.
Installation
I connected the LED reversing lights to the reversing camera signal on the radio and switched them to the auxiliary battery using a relay. This ensures that the reversing lights are only activated when reverse gear is engaged, avoiding unnecessary strain on the vehicle battery.
Legal Requirements
According to Swiss law, it is permitted to connect a pair of additional LED reversing lights to the existing reversing light circuit. However, these must be installed in such a way that they switch off when driving forwards and when the ignition is turned off.
Reversing lights:
- Reversing lights must not dazzle and should only illuminate the immediate area behind the vehicle. If they have directional light, the center of the beam must hit the road surface at a maximum distance of 15 meters.
- Additional reversing lights are permitted but may only be activated when the vehicle's parking lights are on.
Additional LED reversing lights:
- A pair of additional LED reversing lights may be operated together with the existing reversing lights.
- These must switch off when driving forwards and when the ignition is turned off, or, if the vehicle does not have an electrical ignition, when the main contact or the high and low beam headlights are turned off.
- These regulations ensure that reversing lights are used effectively and safely, without dazzling other road users.

Conclusion
By installing the LED reversing lights, I have significantly increased safety when reversing at night. The improved illumination helps me to better identify obstacles and maneuver more safely, which is a great advantage, especially with a long vehicle like the Citroen Jumper.
