SkyFeed Lock Soft-Cinch for LRS - Lead Rope Solo Climbing
SkyFeed Lock: Active Backfeed Stop and Defined Routing for Skylotec Carabiners
When Lead Rope Solo (LRS) is used, the weight of the paid-out rope inevitably pulls it down – this backfeed disrupts the climbing flow and can lead to dangerous side-pulling in the event of a fall. The SkyFeed Lock was designed as a specialized backfeed preventer, precisely tailored to the geometry of Skylotec carabiner legs. It reliably fixes your belay device (such as a Grigri) at the optimal apex, prevents it from sliding down the back of the carabiner, and ensures smooth, low-friction rope pulling during sharp lead climbing.
Targeted Backfeed Protection
Prevents the rope weight from sagging and pulling back, ensuring that the belay device always remains correctly oriented and ready to catch.
Hardware Protection
Tear-resistant, impact-tough, and weather-resistant: Dampens hard impacts and prevents abrasion on the aluminum of the carabiner.
Skylotec Custom Fit
Tailor-made for the cross-section of common Skylotec hardware – no slipping, rattling, or twisting.
Practical Set Size
Always have a spare at hand: Ideally divided for the main belay setup, chest harness routing, and material loop.
Compatibility & Range of Use
- Specially designed for Skylotec locking carabiners (e.g. PassO series, Double models, and oval carabiners)
- Ideally suited for common LRS belay devices (e.g. Petzl Grigri 2 / Plus) in lead climbing
- Suitable for use on belay loops, extension loops, or chest harness constructions for device hanging

🔧 Mounting & Adjustment on the Skylotec Carabiner ▾
Ready to use in four steps:
- Open the carabiner: Fully open the gate of your unweighted Skylotec carabiner.
- Slide on the SkyFeed Lock: Guide the elastic holding lips of the TPU insert over the profile of the carabiner back.
- Define the working chamber: Slide the holder into the appropriate position so that the belay device remains axially fixed and cannot slide down.
- Functional check: Close and lock the carabiner. Check that the belay device can deploy and block unhindered in the event of a fall.
⚠️ Important Safety Notice ▾
Mandatory before use in a solo climbing system:
- No Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): The SkyFeed Lock is purely an auxiliary organization and positioning element. It is not load-bearing, does not absorb dynamic fall forces, and never replaces redundant backups (such as a backup knot).
- Locking check: After mounting, ensure that the snap, keylock nose, and locking sleeve of the Skylotec carabiner can snap and lock absolutely freely, fully, and unhindered.
- Perform a ground test: Always test your entire system (device, SkyFeed Lock, rope diameter, and carabiner) on the ground under pull and blocking conditions before you start the route.
- Regular visual inspection: Check before every climbing session for material fatigue, nicks, or expansion. Replace immediately if visible damage is found.
